Ali Gül

Assistant Professor | Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Department of Religious Education

He was born in Samsun in 1979. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Samsun-Çarşamba. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology of Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2002. He completed his master’s thesis on “Anatolianism Thought in Nurettin Topçu” at Gazi University Institute of Social Sciences in 2006 and became an expert in the field of sociology of religion. He received the title of doctor by completing his doctoral dissertation titled ” Level of religious attitude and moral values of high school students educated in Turkish schools abroad “. Between 2002-2021, he worked as a Religious Culture and Ethics Teacher, Deputy School Principal, Branch Manager at the Ministry of National Education. He has been working in Samsun University, Faculty of Theology, Department of Religious Education since 2021.

Emin Ceyhun Sezdi

Research Assistant | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Arabic Language and Eloquence

Born in 1999 in Bayrampasa, Istanbul, he completed his primary education at Fidan Demircioglu Primary School and Oruc Reis Primary School. He completed his high school education at Bagcılar Ibn-i Sina Anatolian High School. In 2017, he entered Istanbul University Faculty of Theology as the first with the degree he obtained. He completed his 5-year theology education with “Istanbul University Faculty of Theology Faculty First Place”. He served as a formal education representative and deputy chairman in student commissions. After graduating from the faculty in 2022, he started his master’s degree in Arabic Language and Rhetoric at Istanbul University in the same year. In September 2023, he was appointed as a Research Assistant at Samsun University Faculty of Theology and continues to pursue his master’s degree at the same faculty.

Enes Büyük

Assoc. Prof. | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Tafsir

He was born in Samsun, Terme in 1987. He completed primary, secondary and Imam-Khatip High School here. In 2011, he graduated from Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Theology. In 2014, he completed his master’s thesis on “Isrā’iliyāt in the Tafsīr of al-Māwardī en-Nuket ve’l-‘Uyūn” at the Social Sciences Institute of Recep Tayyip Erdogan University. He completed his doctoral thesis titled “The Problem of Tafsīr’s Nature: Its Definition, Function and Sciences which it’s Related to” and received the title of doctorate. He worked as a research assistant at Recep Tayyip Erdogan University Social Sciences Institute (2014-2016), Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Theology (2016-2018) and as a assistant professor at Trabzon University, Faculty of Theology (2019-2021). Since 2021, he has been working in the Department of Tafsir at Samsun University, Faculty of Theology.

His academic fields of study are the nature of tafsīr, its history, usūl al-tafsīr/al-fiqh, hermeneutics, semantics, literary text interpretation theories, isrā’iliyāt and sharhs and hāshiyah literatüre in tafsīr.

Esra Nur Sezgül

Research Assistant | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Hadith

She was born in Germany/Kaufbeuren. She completed primary, secondary and Imam-Khatip High School in Ordu/Ünye. In 2018, she graduated from Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Theology. In 2018, she completed her master’s thesis on “The effect of representative expression on understanding hadiths in the special of amthal al-hadith of Râmahürmüzî” at the Social Sciences Institute of Ondokuz Mayıs University. She started her doctoral thesis at the Social Sciences Institute of Ondokuz Mayıs University. Since 2022, she has been working in the Department of Hadith at Samsun University, Faculty of Theology.

Her academic fields of study are the hạdīth, understanding hạdīth.

Fatma Kaymakçı

Research Assistant | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Sufism

She was born in Giresun in 1992 and graduated as the top student of Kadıköy Anadolu Imam Hatip High School in 2010. She completed her undergraduate studies at Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 2016. In 2019, she completed her master’s degree in the Department of Sufi Studies at the Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences with a thesis titled “Haji Feyzullah Efendi and his sufi opinions from the Naqshbandiyyah sheikh”. She is currently continuing her doctoral studies on “Yār ‘Alī Shīrāzī and his commentary on ‘Irāqı’s Lama‘āt: Literature review and concept analysis” in the same institute. As of March 2023, she is working as a research assistant at the Faculty of Theology at Samsun University.

Her academic research fields are sufi philosophy, sufi history and literature, dervish lodge culture, and manuscript works.

İbrahim Urgancı

Instructor | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Quran Reading and Recitation Science

He was born in İstanbul, Beykoz in 1978. He became a memorizer of the Qur’an after primary school. He completed primary, secondary and Imam-Khatip High School here. He graduated from Beykoz Imam-Hatip High School. He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 2004. In 2017, he completed his master’s thesis on “Hadith Commentary of Muhammad İdris Kandehlevi in ​​the Specialty of et-Ta’lîku’s-sabih” at the Social Sciences Institute of the same university and became an expert in the field of hadith. His doctoral studies, which he started at Kastamonu University in 2018, continue. He served as Imam-Hatip, District Preacher, District Mufti in the provincial organizations of Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye Presidency  of Religious Affairs (2004-2018).  He worked as a lecturer at Bartın University, Faculty of Islamic Sciences (2018-2023), Department of Quran Reading and Recitation Science. Since 2023, he has been working as a lecturer at Samsun University Faculty of Theology, Department of Quran Reading and Recitation Science.

His academic fields of study are hadith and Qur’anic recitation.

Hasan Harmancı

Assistant Professor | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Arabic Language and Eloquence

He was born in 1982 in Gurun district of Sivas. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Konya. In 2007, he graduated from Ataturk University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Arabic Language and Literature. He completed his master’s thesis at Selcuk University, Institute of Social Sciences on the Saudi novelist Abdurrahman Munif (2013) and his doctorate in the same field on a thematic comparison of the novels of Egyptian novelist Abdurrahman al-Sharkawi and Kemal Tahir (2016). Between 2010 and 2023, he worked at Selcuk University and Mus Alparslan University. In February 2023, he became an associate professor. He started his duty at Samsun University, Faculty of Theology in June 2023.

Mehmet Emin Ergin
Research Assistant | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Islamic History

Born in 1999 in Sırnak, he completed primary and secondary school in Sırnak. He graduated from Siirt Anatolian Imam-Hatip High School. In 2022, he graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology. During his undergraduate studies, he completed the ISM (Center for Sciences and Arts) program, which provides 5-year education in Islamic sciences and social sciences. At the same time, he completed his hafizah along with his undergraduate studies. In 2022, he continues his master’s degree in the Department of Islamic History and Arts at Istanbul University Institute of Social Sciences. Since September 2023, he has been working as a research assistant at Samsun University Faculty of Theology.

Mustafa Irmak

Professor | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Arabic Language and Eloquence

He was born in 1982 in Duragan, Sinop. He completed his primary education at Duragan Cumhuriyet Primary School (1992) and his secondary education at Duragan Imam-Hatip High School (1999). He graduated from KTU Rize Faculty of Theology (2003). He was appointed as a research assistant to this faculty (2004). He completed his master’s degree at KTU Institute of Social Sciences with his thesis titled “Nāsih Verbs in Arabic” (2006) and his doctorate at Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences with his study titled “Haber-İnsâ Meselesi in Arabic Rhetoric” (2011). He worked as a lecturer at RTEU Faculty of Theology (2012-2023). During this period, he conducted research in Jordan for three months (2013). In 2017, he became an associate professor. In May 2023, he was appointed to Samsun University Faculty of Theology.

Muzaffer Barlak

Assoc. Prof. | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Kalam

Born in 1983 in Surmene/Trabzon, he completed his primary and secondary education in Samsun. In 2006, he graduated from Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Theology. He received his master’s degree in 2010 with his thesis titled “The Problem of Husun Kubuh According to the Qur’an” in OMU Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Theology. He received the title of doctor in 2013 with his thesis titled “Prophethood as a Problem of Kalam -The Case of Baqillani and Qāḍī ‘Abd al-Jabbār”, which he prepared within the scope of the doctoral program in the same institute. In 2021, he became an associate professor. In addition to these achievements for his academic career, he worked as an imam-hatip in Trabzon and Samsun between 2006-2011 under the Presidency of Religious Affairs. In 2011, he was appointed as a research assistant to Sırnak University Faculty of Theology, Department of Theology. After working in this position for more than two years, he was appointed as an assistant professor at Sinop University Faculty of Theology, Department of Theology in 2014 and as an associate professor in 2021. As of 2023, he was appointed as an associate professor at Samsun University, Faculty of Theology, Department of Theology. He still continues this duty.

Miraç Çölgezer

Research Assistant | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Islamic Jurisprudence

He was born in 1995 in Erciş, Van, where he completed primary, secondary and Imam-Hatip High School. In 2018, he graduated from Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Theology. After working as an imam for 1 year, he started as a Research Assistant in the Department of Islamic Law at Samsun University (2022).  He completed his master’s degree in Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Institute of Social Sciences in 2022 with his thesis on “Evaluation of the Crime of Irtidat in Islamic Law in the Context of Freedom of Thought”. Currently, he is doing his PhD in Basic Islamic Sciences at Ondokuz Mayıs University.

Recep Köklü

Assistant Professor | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Hadith

 

He was born in 1982 in Istanbul. He graduated from Bakırkoy Imam Hatip High School in 1999. After high school education, he studied Islamic sciences in madrasa between 1999-2004. In 2009, he successfully completed his undergraduate education at Ankara University Faculty of Theology. In 2014, he completed his master’s degree at Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Hadith with his thesis titled “Evaluation of the Narrations Ordering to Take an Attitude on the Side of the Congregation”, and in 2022, he completed his doctorate at Ondokuz Mayıs University Institute of Postgraduate Education, Department of Basic Islamic Sciences with his thesis titled “Socio-Political and Socio-Cultural Context in the Formation of Hadith Procedure”. He worked at the Presidency of Religious Affairs between 2004-2014. In 2014, he started to work as a research assistant at Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Theology, Department of Hadith and continued this duty until 2022. In September 2023, he was appointed to Samsun University, Faculty of Theology, Department of Hadith.

Salih Kesgin

Professor | Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Hadith

He completed his primary school in Şehid Cengiz Topel Primary School (1992) and secondary school in Samsun Imam-Khatip High School (1999). In 2003, he graduated from Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Theology. In 2005, he graduated from Anadolu University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Deparment of Public Administration. In 2005, he completed his master’s thesis on “Expulsion of Various Belief Groups from the Arabian Peninsula in the Context of the Revelant Hadiths” at the Social Sciences Institute of Ondokuz Mayıs University. In 2011, he completed his doctoral thesis titled “The understanding problem of the hadith text in the authentication and the evaluation process” and received the title of doctorate. In 2013, his doctoral work was awarded ‘the Hadith and Sirat Research’ prize. He was a visiting researcher and lecturer at the University of London, Jordan International Islamic University, University of Jordan and Bosnia-Herzagovnia University of Bihac. During his time at the University of London (September 2009-June 2011), he succesfully completed a master’s program entitled “Law, Culture and Society” at the Faculty of Law of the same university. Subsequently, he received his doctorate degree in Public Administration at Istanbul Medeniyet University.

His academic fields of study are hạdīth, law of Islam and interpretation.
